Picture this. You are at home with a fire burning, a warm cocoa or tea in your hand, wrapped up in a blanket, snow falling outside and your favorite Christmas movie on the TV. Perfect? I know. If you find yourself in this situation (lucky you!), here are some movie suggestions!
1. It's a wonderful life - Such a classic movie! It tells the story of a troubled man, George Bailey, who starts doubting himself and even becomes suicidal at some point in his life. An angel is sent down from heaven in order to help him out and show him what life would be like for those around him if he was never born. It's a very sad movie (I am always in tears throughout the entire movie!), but so nice as well. It's a story about compassion, kindness and sacrifice and it will definitely make you rethink your life choices. There are two versions of the movie (one in black & white and one in color) and I am definitely a fan of the b&w just because it's the one I first watched. A movie everyone must watch at least once in their life!
Favorite scene: Every scene. I tried to choose, but I can't. :)
2. Home Alone - I honestly can't remember the first time I watched this movie (I was probably 5 years old). However, since then I watch it every Christmas, especially because it is always on TV a couple of times during the holidays. Macaulay Culkin was such a cute kid and the movie is really fun to watch.
Favorite scene: Macaulay Culkin tricks the thieves in believing he has a gun by putting on a shooting scene from a movie. (Unfortunately, I couldn't find an online version from the actual movie).
3. How the Grinch stole Christmas - I really enjoy movies adapted from Dr. Seuss's books (I'm sych a kid!) and the Grinch is no different. This is such a good movie for kids and has such a great message. Jim Carrey proves his comedic talent once more and manages to change your feelings from 'totally hate him' to 'ohhhhhhh!' insanely fast. Also, how cute is Taylor Momsen with her pigtails?
Favorite scene: The Grinch's heart grows three times. Sad and funny at the same time.
4. Love Actually - Oh love! This movie is filled with love stories that take place around Christmas. Some happy and some not. This is the movie I watch with my best friend every year (our own little tradition!).
Favorite scene: This is sooo hard for me! My favorite story is the one of Juliet and Mark (Keira Knightley and Andrew Lincoln), so my favorite scene has to be the one with the cards. Also, Emma Thompson listening to Joni Mitchell in her room is devastating. So many tears!
5. The Nightmare before Christmas - Tim Burton is one of my favorite directors and writers and this movie is pure genious. It is an animated musical with amazing songs written by Danny Elfman and great performances. I tend to watch this movie both around Halloween and around Christmas.
Favorite scene: Jack Skellington singing 'What's this' when he discovers Christmas town and the magic of the holiday.
Let me know your favorite Christmas movie in the comments!
